Tom was very helpful in answering my numerous email questions about the lathe I was interested in purchasing. ![]() I purchased my watchmaker's lathe from "Dashto Horological/Tom Mister". The T-rest, alone, for the Sherline lists at $175, and Sherline collets add to the basic price. A similiarly equipped new Sherline would have been close to $700. I got what I needed, for starters, for under $400. Also, since I wasn't sure I'd "take to" lathe work, I didn't want a high initial investment. If clocks only, the Sherline may be suitable. If wrist watches, you may need to go with the watchmaker's lathe for accuracy (per Bob Tascione). In my case, I planned to focus on pocket watches, so I could probably have gone either way. ![]() The decision is an individual one, based on what you'll be using it for, and your budget.
